God’s Word is a Hammer

It is my hope to use this blog semi-regularly to serve as a tool of ministry. Jeremiah 23:29 describes God’s Word as a hammer that breaks a rock to pieces. I believe this is true. God’s Word is powerful and so I hope to post God’s Word as well as some of my thoughts and others concerning God’s Word.

I am serving as an intern pastor at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Camarillo, CA. I have. I have three years of seminary training are under my belt and am on the back end of a one year internship here. Very soon, Lord willing, I will be approved to receive a call from an Association of Free Lutheran Congregations church.

I have been in Southern California since June 2 and overall, Southern California is awesome. The family and I have been going to the beach regularly. We had about two and a half months where we went at least once a week. Miriam and I have been hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains. We even started a family tradition of hiking on Saturdays which is fun. We found a great fish taco stand close to home. It has been a wonderful time.

Internship has also been very challenging. Yet, it has also been a time of recovery. Seminary is hard. It is academically difficult but it is even more difficult on relationships with the ones you are closest to. One of the best things about it has been the time I’ve been able to spend with Miriam and the kids going on adventures. This time with family has been invaluable.

Another great thing has been participating in the ministry of Word and Sacrament here in Camarillo. Throughout seminary, our professors would talk about their love for the congregation. Over three years of class, I also began to love the congregation in a new way. Now, being in the congregation, that love is cemented. It is such a privilege it is to worship and minister to people who need the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I hope that if you read anything I post that it will be a blessing to you.

May the grace of our Lord be with you.
